Simple Organizing Tips

• Put clothes out to know what is clean, and avoid rushing the next morning.

• Make lunches; filling can be prepared in advance for bread the next morning.

• Check school and work agendas and prepare for what is needed the next day.

• Have school papers signed, and put school money in labeled envelope(s) in knapsacks.

• School bags, purses, briefcases and knapsacks are packed and put by the door.

• Have office work or items needed for the car put in a bag and at the door ready to go.

• Set table for morning breakfast.

• Wake up a 1/2-hour earlier.

• Make evening calls to business answering machines - getting a head start to the next day.

• Get dinner ready in advance for the next night.

• Select one day/night per week to grocery shop. Shop in off- hours, not on Saturday.

• Keep a running list on fridge door of needed items to buy; person to use the last of item is to write the item(s) on the list.

• Fill car with gas when needed, not in desperation or as a detour on your way to work.

• Do not be driven by your phone. When you are busy, let the answering machine pick up.

• Put a note on the inside of front door of what not to forget to take from the house.

• Allocate a central message location and communication note book and have everyone use it.

• Plug in cell phone to recharge for the next day.

• Define a specific location (ex: a wicker basket in the living room) for items needing repair, old batteries, dry cleaning & mending.

Organizing Ideas to Simplify Your Move

Organize at both ends of the move
Think about where in your new home your possessions will go before you even begin packing. Take stock of the existing storage spaces in the new home you have chosen. If you can't easily see your possessions fitting into the space, speak with your professional organizer to help you find the best storage solution provider for your needs. Together you can discuss whether custom made storage or cabinetry/shelving is an option to consider.

Pack your remaining items room by room, keeping like items together. Label and number boxes for each room, and keep a master list with contents noted by box number. Boxes holding items you will need immediately should be marked for Immediate. For example, Kitchen - Immediate would hold daily dishes and glasses and cutlery and those containing archival items marked for Long-term Storage to streamline unpacking.

Plan for unpacking

Upon arrival each box should be delivered to the appropriate room, with boxes marked Immediate easily accessible. Place your possessions within the appropriate storage areas, keeping in mind how you use and access each item. As you unpack, place frequently used items in sight and easy reach. Items used less frequently should be placed in drawers, or higher shelves, and make every effort to keep everything
