In the field of organizing, we must first understand the reasons behind
disorganization. Therefore, before we begin the process of organizing,
we will review your current organizing system. We'll look at lifestyle
and other constraints, and identify obstacles that may be holding you
back from being organized.
Once we pinpoint the underlying reasons, we can help you implement effective solutions to improve your self-management and organizational skills.
It goes without saying that the more open and committed you are to establishing new, effective organizing techniques, the quicker the process will be and the higher your short-term and long-term success in doing so. We can help you live a less encumbered life and get you back on track. Inquiries about participating in collaborative therapies are welcome.
Disorganization can be attributed to one or more of the following situations:
AD/HD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This disorder has many faces and varies from individual to individual. Some characteristics include forgetfulness, impulsiveness and restlessness, distractibility, and problems with details, following instructions, organizing tasks and objects, and sustaining attention.
Chronic Disorganization: Disorganization, often over a long period of time, that negatively affects life on a daily basis. Previous attempts to become organized on one's own have failed.
Physically Challenged: Reduced mobility can make effectively organizing one's environment a challenge.
Hoarding: Hoarding is the excessive collection and retention of things until they interfere with day-to-day functions. Severe hoarding can affect a person's safety and health.
Mood Disorders: Mood disorders are characterized by periods of depression, sometimes alternating with periods of elevated mood or mania. Obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety fall under this category.
Seniors: Seniors, as a group, are at higher risk when it comes to hoarding, mood disorders (e.g. depression) and health issues (Alzheimer's, reduced mobility, etc.).
Artistic/Creative Temperament: Often creatively-minded people experience difficulty with organization.
